base64 content transfer encoding for email notification?

Email from <notifications@ppt.bandsintown.com> shows up as multi-part MIME with plain 7-bit content transfer encoding.

Plenty of bands have names that can't be spelled correctly in the low ASCII character set. Double-byte languages especially get hurt.

Is there a good reason not to use base64 encoding for text? In a list view of my inbox, it makes the difference between

おとぼけビ~バ~ - Otoboke Beaver (via Bandsintown)

and

u304au3068u307cu3051u30d3uff5eu30d0uff5eu3000- Otoboke Beaver (via Bandsintown)

Which would you rather have people see?
